The Fund of Administration and Management of the Farm of the University of Thessaloniki (Farm of the University of Thessaloniki) was founded with an obligatory law in 1936, with the exclusive aim the provision of the necessary material and technical infrastructure for the educational and research activities of the Faculty of Agriculture. It is an independent legal entity of the public sector that is supervised by the Ministry of Education, Life-long Learning and Religious Affairs.
The Farm is the natural area of the Faculty of Agriculture, where the laboratorial exercises of most courses, almost all the experimental work of the undergraduate and the postgraduate theses, the scientific research from the educational personnel as well as the practical exercise of the students are realized All these have been continuously carried out the last 75 years of the operation of the Farm, during which thousands students of the Faculty of Agriculture have been educated in its facilities.
The existing building facilities of the Faculty of Agriculture in the University Campus and in the Farm are not sufficient to cover all the needs of the Faculty. Therefore, in the near future the Faculty is expected proceed in the construction of new buildings in the Farm area within the frames of the approved Master Plan that will render possible the relocation of the Faculty from the Campus to the Farm.
The Farm is located in the eastern exit of Thessaloniki. In particular, it is located in the joint of the avenues towards Thermi and Agia Triada. It has an area of 18000 ha, where they exist demonstration and experimental fields for educational and research activities, stockfarmings of ruminants as well as model agricultural and husbandry units. They also exist 21 buildings facilities including sporting facilities for the students. Two of these buildings (classic stone buildings) are used throughout the academic year for other educational activities of the Faculty, seminars, meetings and congresses, whereas the remainder 19 buildings belong to the Laboratories of the Faculty and they cover their instructive and research needs.
